As a left-handed or left-handed person, my view of the world has always been different from that of the majority. From being looked at differently every time I eat or do things with my left hand, to being suggested to me that it’s not the right way to do things (pun intended ). To inform those who are not informed, we lefties/lefties are 10% of the world population so we are not that far away, look around you will find an unassuming lefty trying to fit into this world. I found an interesting article here that provides useful information for the uninformed.

Throughout my 35 years of life, I have encountered many challenges as a left-hander, from pens that didn’t work to difficulty writing in spiral binders and using pencils. However, instead of dwelling on these questions, I want to share the unique adaptations and preferences I have developed over the years.

One of my biggest quirks is my love for handwriting. I’ve always despised writing, from the way pens are held to the general difficulties of writing tools designed for right-handed people. The discovery of keyboards, and initially typewriters, changed the situation for me. Typing allowed me to express my thoughts quickly and I quickly honed my skills. The only downside was that I typed quite hard, so only mechanical keyboards could withstand my enthusiastic typing.

Another challenge I faced was using a computer mouse. Between 2000 and 2008, I struggled with right-handed mouse design until I found the perfect solution: trackpads. For me, trackpads were a fantastic innovation because they allowed me to work more efficiently no matter which hand I was using. The introduction of multitouch trackpads on Apple MacBooks was another life upgrade, providing a larger surface area for smoother operations.

This preference for trackpads has led me to favor working on laptops and single displays over larger setups. It took me a while to realize that it was the mouse that was holding me back, but once I found a solution by placing the trackpad on the left side, my workflow improved significantly. However, there were some unintended side effects: Since I preferred typing to writing, I never considered journaling and tended to accumulate digital possessions while avoiding physical clutter .

As a left-hander, I continually discover new aspects of my behaviors that arise from my hand. However, it is worth keeping in mind that not everyone struggles with the same or similar things and I could make a mountain out of a mole hole. But then, this is my blog, my life and my story and I decided how to share it, and today I decided to share this little part of my life with everyone who reads this, until the next time.
